Building KaziHub on AWS

Across Africa, the number of developers and tech enthusiasts is on the rise, but opportunities to turn their passions into careers remain scarce. KaziHub was born to change that, helping people pursue their tech dreams. Using artificial intelligence, we connect users with job listings that fit their skills and experience. Plus, we take extra steps to verify postings, tackling the growing problem of job scams head-on.

Why AWS?

As a solo founder building a startup from the ground up, AWS has been a lifesaver. Its flexibility and free tier options let me create and grow KaziHub without drowning in costs. Here’s how I’m weaving AWS services into the platform:
Amazon DynamoDB: This is the heart of KaziHub, storing job listings and user profiles. Its serverless, pay-as-you-go setup scales with us and keeps expenses manageable for a startup.
AWS Amplify: Teamed up with Amazon CloudFront, Amplify delivers a smooth, speedy front-end experience—whether users are logging in from Nairobi or New York.
Amazon Cognito: Security matters. Cognito handles user authentication with customizable options, keeping things safe and simple for our growing community.
Amazon Rekognition: Trust is everything in a job platform. Rekognition’s image analysis checks profile photos and IDs, so employers can hire with peace of mind.
Down the road, I’m planning to bring in AWS SageMaker to build AI-powered skill assessments—like reviewing code portfolios. It’s a big goal, and I’m learning as I go!

Sharing the Journey

KaziHub isn’t just about coding—it’s about building a community. I’m sharing every step of this adventure in a blog series, hoping to connect with other AWS developers. Together, we can make KaziHub something special.
